Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, You know, I think it's total crap that BYU fans didn't like my "Spirit, Tradition and Honor" nameplate idea. But, whatever. Now I know to just keep to our old "traditions." Or, maybe I should only do things within the "spirit" of the program. I guess I could always "honor" the wishes of our alumni. Pfffft. Anything happening this weekend that involves a little "spirit, tradition and honor?" - Coach Bronco Mendenhall---

Coach, Not every idea you have can be a winner. I mean, at least 80 percent of my ides are shit ... except for my Batman quesadilla maker that also doubles as a WiFi hub. Anyway, here's what's up for this weekend. Let's start with Friday's events: 

The Salt Lake County Fair will be going on all day at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park and Events Center. The carnival kicks off at 4 p.m.  

Stand-up comedian Orny Adams will be onstage at Wiseguys West Valley tonight. There are two shows, at 7:30 and 9:30. Tickets are $12.  

Indie-rock band Night Sweats will be at Bar Deluxe this evening. Pentagraham Crackers and Circular are also on the bill. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $5.

The Hotel will be hosting the final round of its 2nd Annual DJ Contest tonight. The contest starts at 9. 

Portland-based alternative-rock band Hockey will be onstage at The State Room.  St. Motel and SWIMM will warm things up. The show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $12. 


Saturday's events:

The Sandy Hot-Air-Balloon Festival will be going down today at 7 a.m. at Storm Mountain Park. Admission is free.   

Reggae jam band John Brown's Body will be at the Uncle Uncanny Summer Sessions in Heber. The show starts at noon.

At Rio Tinto Stadium, Real Salt Lake will be taking on the Houston Dynamo tonight at 7:30. Tickets start at $20.  

Country singer Allen Jackson will be at USANA Amphitheater tonight at 7:30. Tickets start at $29.   

That guy who hooked up with Pamela Anderson, Tommy Lee, will be DJing at The Depot tonight with DJ Aero. The show starts at 9:30. Tickets are $25.  

Motown cover band The Motown Sounds will be at The State Room this evening. The show starts at 9. Tickets are $25. 


Sunday's events:  

The Kap Brothers and Jeff Crosby will be performing at Snowbasin's 2013 Blues, Brews, & BBQs party. The show starts at noon. Admission is free. 

Americana band Truth & Salvage Co. will be at The State Room this evening. The show starts at 8. Tickets are $12.


Bourbon House will be hosting its weekly Funk & Soul Night with DJ Street Jesus. The music starts at 9. There's no cover.

City Weekly, True TV, Bohemian Brewery and Brewvies will be showing  the final season of AMC's Breaking Bad for free on the big screen at 7 pm.
