This spring, Salt Lakers watched in rapture as the Peregrine Falcon Cam documented the lives of a falcon couple and their four eggs.

The bad news is that only one of those eggs hatched. The worse news is that the fledgling died.---

Solo, as the hatchling was named, was learning how to fly when he crashed on July 3. The injuries sustained resulted in his death on July 13.

According to the Salt Lake Peregrine Falcons Facebook page, Solo’s “injuries were a result of a high-speed impact into the north face of the Zion’s Bank Tower.”

Solo was taken to a Salt Lake City rehabilitation facility, where supportive therapies were started. Although there was no evidence of fractures, Solo did suffer soft-tissue, nerve and spinal cord injuries, which resulted in flaccid paralysis of both legs, incontinence and head trauma, according to the post.

“While some improvement in the paralysis was detected over the 10-day holding period, other systems began to shut down,” the post said. “He was found dead midday on Saturday.”
