There's a really enticing wine dinner taking place next Monday, June 17. It's at Franck's restaurant in Holladay. ---
The dinner will feature Jon Grant (pictured here), one of California's most respected winemakers, along with two of his "Straight Line" wines and two of his "Couloir" label wines. I'm especially fond of the Couloir Pinot Noir wines, and I am grateful to the Shallow Shaft's Peri Ermidis for turning me on to them.
The four-course wine dinner menu is as follows:
Crudo of hamachi, ruby red grapefruit and fresh herb salad -- 2011 Straight Line Sauvignon Blanc
Duo of duck: duck and foie gras terrine, potato gnocchi, duck confit and roasted mushroom ragu -- 2011 Couloir Pinot Noir, Chileno Valley Vineyard and 2011 Couloir Pinot Noir, Monument Tree Vineyard
Braised lamb, spiced raisin and olive couscous -- 2010 Straight Line Syrah
Rosemary cake with salted chocolate ice cream & Syrah-poached cherries -- 2010 Straight Line Syrah
Dinner begins at 7 p.m. on Franck's patio, and the cost is $90 per person.
