Glad You Asked: Weekend To-Dos

Dear GYA, Hell, yeah, man, it's finally Crocs season! This is that special time of year when nothing beats slippin' into a pair of baby-blue Crocs, crackin' open a Bud Light Platinum and watching 2 Broke Girls on your iPhone. It's gonna be sweet. Anything else to do this weekend once I dust off these babies? - Jay Fedorah, West Valley City--- 

Jay, Don't let anyone talk bad about your Crocs -- they're comfortable, damn it.  Here's what's going down this weekend. Let's start with Friday's events

- Burt's Tiki Lounge will be hosting the CWMA Music Showcase, featuring tunes from local bands Lady Murasaki, The New Electric Sound and Folk Hogan. The show starts at 9 p.m. There's a $5 cover. 

- The massive EDM rave, Excision will be happening at The Great Saltair, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25-$30. 

Joshua James and Isaac Russel will be onstage at The Urban Lounge this evening. The show starts at 9.  Tickets are $14. 

- The SLCC Grand Theatre will be hosting KUER's presentation of NPR Science Friday. The show starts at 11:45 a.m. Tickets are $15-$20. 

- Rapper Machine Gun Kelly will be at The Depot. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30. 

- The Grand Kerfuffle concert will be happening at the University of Utah. Performances by Awolnation, Mutemath, Katie Herzig. Tickets are $15 or free if you have a student I.D. 

- Stand-up comedian Russ Nagel will be at Wiseguys Ogden. The shows starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10. 


Saturday's events:   

- The Woodshed will be hosting the CWMA live music showcase tonight. Vote in person for your favorite local band and enjoy tunes from Bullets & Belles, Juana Ghani and Color Animal. The show starts at 9 p.m. There's a $5 cover. 

- Hip-hop legends Dilated Peoples will be onstage at Park City Live. The show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20. 

- For more rap music, check out the Elevated Minds Tour at the Gallivan Center with performances by Binary Star, Talib Kweli and Mobb Deep. The show starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are $40. 

- Blackalicious emcee Gift of Gab will be onstage at The Urban Lounge. DJ Juggy, Cavelight Captain, Dumb Luck and Zigga are also on the bill. The show starts at 9 p.m. 

- The all-female AC/DC cover band Hell's Belles will be at The State Room. Doors are at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $17. 

- In all things roller derby, the Junction City Roller Dolls will take on the ladies of Humbolt Roller Derby at The Golden Spike Event Center. The bout starts at 7 p.m. 

- Stand-up comedian Lisa Landry will be at Wiseguys Ogden tonight. Shows are 7:30 and 9. Tickets are $12. 

- Royal Bliss, Samuel Smith Band, King Niko and Hour 13 will be performing at The Depot this evening. The show starts at 8.  Tickets are $16. 

- The second-annual SLC Nerd convention is happening at The Complex, starting at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10.   


Sunday's Events:  

- City Weekly, True TV, Bohemian Brewery & Brewvies will be showing a free screening of Season 6 of AMC's Mad Men, at 8 p.m. (later on Geek Show Movie Nights).

- At Spring Mobile Ballpark. The Salt Lake Bees will be taking on the Tacoma Rainiers. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
