In The Loop: 1/26/13. Myst Lake City

Before I dive into events, a small note on a film festival coming up: The fourth-annual Radio From Hell Film Festival is currently looking for entrants. Kinda like the 24 Hour fests, but with an extended timeframe, every film must include certain criteria to qualify for a chance to win prizes and $1,000. Moving into events, we start tomorrow night at Brewvies, where The Geek Show Podcast will be holding its annual movie night. If you're not entirely finished with Sundance, or theater seats, they've got a treat for you with two films that made waves in prior years: The Blair Witch Project and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. The films are free, the food and drinks aren't, and remember to tip the staff.
Climbing our way out of the festival season has still taken a toll on the local events, but we have some non-film-related material, starting with Thursday, when the Blue Boutique in Sugar House will be holding another class with Dr. Melissa Jones, aka The Mormon Sexologist. She'll be holding several seminars (which you can browse here) for those of you interested in learning some skills in the bedroom and your romantic life in general. She's only in town three days and these tickets go fast, so check it out.
Switching to art, I cover the SLC Stroll a lot mainly because I'm in SLC, but Ogden, Provo and Park City hold their own events every month. I'll chat PC in a few weeks, but this Friday, Provo will hold its Downtown Gallery Stroll, and Ogden will hold its First Friday Art Stroll. I highly suggest getting out and checking what new art lies beyond SLC, if you can.
Next Saturday, the Wasatch Roller Derby is already back in full form, but next week they'll be throwing a picnic scrimmage with a tutu theme. There's a full day's worth of events that would take too long to list here, so check out their Facebook invite page for complete information and a chance to join in the scrimmages!
Much of the following week stays pretty dull with the exception of concerts, but when we get to Thursday, we find Love debuting at The Leonardo. This is a pop-up exhibition of mixed-media cabaret performances, featuring local performers Deena Marie Manzanares, Austin Archer and Robert Scott Smith, directed by Alexandra Harbold. The performances will only run Feb. 7-10, so snag tickets while you can.
And then finally, on Friday, Feb. 8, the Connect series returns. This is the continuing artistic series presented by the Utah Arts Alliance, but rather than hold it at the Arts Hub, this month they'll be taking it to the Gateway at 137 South Rio Grande, where they'll have Matt Jacobson from the Utah Arts Festival as their guest speaker. As for the blog: I'll have a concert recap from the weekend, the latest from Plan-B Theatre, SLAC and Ririe-Woodbury, check out a brand-new action-sports website and look into some environmentally friendly poles. At least, that's the plan for now -- who the hell knows what will happen? I never expected to see ice rain in SLC! As always, we'll see what develops.
