Dear GYA, I once read somewhere that the Japanese wear those little face masks around not because they don't want to get sick but because they don't want to get other people sick. I wish Americans could be that courteous. For example, take this guy sitting behind me on TRAX right now -- he's completely unaware that he's sneezing into the back of my head.--- Is it true you can you punch the flu out of someone? - Mike Deboiss, South Salt Lake

Mike, There is no scientific evidence that supports flu punching, but on the other hand, there's no evidence that doesn't support it. I say follow your heart. Here are some good things to do today when your not combating the flu:

The Shred Shed, SLC's slightly new, all-ages venue, will be hosting a slew of local metal bands including the Dead Pilots, Starvist, Don't Trust Anybody and my personal favorite local band, My Cat Died. The show starts at 8 p.m.

The Utah Jazz are at home facing against Lebron James and the Miami Heat.  Last December, LBJ and The Heat crushed the Jazz 105-89. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

The monthly local film showcase Channel 801 is happening tonight at Brewvies. If your a filmmaker or you just enjoy indie films, Channel 801 is a great event at which to eat, drink, network and enjoy some local films on the big screen. Free admission. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
