There are a vast number of articles to be found on the Internet where people tell you how they saved enough to travel by doing drastic things you wouldn’t want to contemplate. Such tales can often end up leaving you feeling worse about your prospects rather than excited to start saving.
That’s why we loved the site Saving For Travel. It takes you step-by-step through a process of figuring out where you want to go and for how long, how much money you’ll need, advises you to open up a specific account where you set aside money for travel and then gives you some advice on how to save money to put in there -- mostly by helping you realize that it’s more enjoyable to spend money in far-flung places doing new things than on the same old stuff you spend it on at home.
It should be noted that this is a site aimed at backpackers, all prices are listed in British pounds and the audience is definitely younger since one piece of advice is move back in with your parents. However, the steps that the site takes you through -- decide where you want to go, for how long and how much it will cost, open up a savings account devoted solely to travel and cut down on your expenses -- is applicable to everyone.
Set your goals and start saving for your next trip!
