A Trip to the North Pole

The North Pole is known by children the world over as Santa's home, but it's also a site that travelers have sought out for centuries. The first confirmed visit was in the early 20th century and it's still a destination for the adventuresome. Looking to get there yourself? It's doable, if a bit more difficult than your average vacation. --- First, you'll need to start from a country that offers expeditions to the area; try Canada, Russia or Norway, and make sure you go during the right time of year; choose the late spring into the summer.
From there, you'll fly to the area, travel by dog sled for three to four days, and finally ski into the Pole, hopefully, not being thwarted by the terrain or the possibility of encounters with unfriendly wildlife. This is not a trip that can be done on the cheap -- depending on the guide company, or even if you decide to go it alone (not advisable, for obvious reasons), you'll be looking at a cost of upwards of $20,000 a person. However, some might say it's a small cost to pay for going to one of the last truly hard-to-reach places on the planet.
