The Utah Tar Sands Resistance is looking for help this weekend as they go out to the neighborhoods surrounding the North Salt Lake refineries to talk to people who may be the most effected by refining of tar sands petroleum.---

The resistance, along with Peaceful Uprising, needs your help as they go to the front lines of the local tar sands battlefield to talk with residents of the Bountiful refineries and pass out literature and start a dialogue about how tar sands refining will affect residents’ health as well as the local economy. Utah may become home to the nation’s first tar sands strip mine, located adjacent southern Utah’s pristine Book Cliffs, and activists are busy educating and rallying opposition.

If you’re not proud of Utah being the guinea pig for this new brand of mining, then come out Saturday and do something about it. Literature, clipboards, maps and Peace Up T-shirts will be provided; volunteers are asked just to bring water and snacks, if they like.

Canvassers will meet at the Woods Cross Frontrunner Station, at 750 S. 800 West, Saturday, Dec. 15, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Check out the Utah Tar Sands Resistance Facebook page for more info.
