Vigil planned for families broken up by Swift immigration raids

A candlelight vigil will be held at the corner of Main Street and South Temple on Wednesday evening to remember the undocumented families torn apart by the Swift meatpacking plant raid six years ago Wednesday.---
The two-hour vigil, which begins at 6:30 p.m., is being organized by the Salt Lake Dream Time, the advocacy group for undocumented youth and the Dream Act.
It will commemorate the Dec. 12, 2006, raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] officers of six Swift plants, including one in Hyrum, which resulted in the arrest of 1,300 people, rendering the Swift operation as the largest single immigration raid on one company in American history, according to the Dreamers website.
"Let us come together, because separating families is not OK," the Dreamers write. "We need a solution; We need humane immigration reform today."
