PETA2 has released its list of “Libby” award nominees for 2012 honoring champions of animal liberation and purveyors of cruelty-free vegetarian and vegan noms. This year in the food truck category, Salt Lake City’s own City Dogs is one of four national finalists.---

PETA2, a youth animal-rights group and affiliate of parent organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is taking votes now for its 2012 “Libby” nominees. The awards' food competition considers nominees in categories ranging from “Best Vegan Friendly Restaurant Chain,” “Best Dairy Alternative” to “Best Vegan Food Truck,” where Salt Lake City’s City Dogs will be competing against contenders, like the artisan vegan cheese offerings of St. Martaen’s in Chicago and the soy- and gluten-free Bac’n Cheeze Burgers at Arlo’s in Austin, Texas.

City Dogs, however, is no lightweight in this competition with its classic vegan franks, seasonal greens salad wraps and its choice “Italian Sausage Dog,” a jumbo-size sun-dried-tomato-and-basil dog that packs a spicy kick.

If you’re a City Dog fan, cast your vote at the “Libby” site here. You have from now until Dec. 17 to cast your vote for the hometown contender.
