U. Forum to Look at Why Economy Isn't Out of the Crapper Yet

Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, D.C., and one of the first economists to warn of the housing bubble that popped in 2007, will be in town Wednesday to discuss the economy and the long road to recovery.---
Besides his work for CEPR, Baker is also a regular contributor to publications such as the New York Times and has weekly columns with The Guardian Unlimited, Huffington Post and Truthout, where he regularly challenges the prognostications of mainstream financial gurus.
Baker was one of the first economists to warn of the housing bubble when it started blowing in 2002, and predicted correctly its burst in 2007 and the fact that it would lead to a recession soon after.
He’s also pulled no punches in his opinion of economists who enabled the housing market crash, and has likened their flawed economics to the math being wielded by those currently defending the wealth inequality in our nation and world.
“Most economists are not paid for knowing about the economy. They are paid for telling stories that justify giving more money to rich people. Hence, we can look forward to many more people telling us that all the money going to the rich was just the natural workings of the economy,” Baker wrote in a recent op-ed.
