Not many releases to discuss this week; we've got a few from the Web this month month and two release shows set for tonight. --- First up is the latest from Ashan, who is still cranking out the ambient earthly-drone music on a regular basis, most of it 2-3 track pieces that aren't even official singles but more like sparse releases. Well, now he has an EP put together, which itself is barely an EP at four tracks, but the length is near that of a short punk album. Ancient Forever landed on his Bandcamp page this week, which you can download for a mere $5.

While we're looking at instrumental music, check out this little ditty from Clayton G. This guy has been making beats in his spare time that have been slowly showing up around the valley, and now he's got an album's worth that he's practically giving away. Dusty Beats is a mix of 8-bit electronica and classic-sounding tunes that are sure to give some emcees out there some awesome ideas. You can download it for a “name your price” tag off his Bandcamp page.

Moving on to release shows, tonight we'll see the latest from Robert & The Carrolls. The six-piece folk rock band out of Provo with roots in Califorbia have been around since 2008, but after moving to Utah and recruiting extra members, they've been playing mid-card gigs for roughly a year now. Back in March, they released their self-titled debut EP, which got some reaction but not a lot of attention. The group are now focusing on single releases, starting with their new track “Vintage Sound.” You can pick up a copy at the release show at Velour tonight, where they'll be playing with Mad Diving Barons and Red Yeti. Just $6, starting at 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, up in SLC we'll see the debut release from Luna Lune. There's a lot of articles floating around about the band, and to write up something in one paragraph and compare it to the big article out there would be ridiculous, so you're getting a very pared-down version here. The Barton family have always been a musically inclined group of siblings, especially sisters Sophie and Tessa, who looked to be a breakout duo a few years ago as they were making their way around the morning TV circuit. Tragically, Sophie passed away in mid-2010 from an undiagnosed heart arrhythmia. The remaining siblings, Chas and Luke, along with Tony Farley formed the band Luna Lune, with Tessa (seen above, courtesy of their Facebook) pressing on with her musical career and always with her sister by her side in spirit. The group's debut album, Walk With Me, will be released tonight at the Murray Theatre, with all proceeds going to Sophie's Place, a musical-therapy center at Primary Children's Hospital. Musically speaking, the album has a very heartfelt pop/rock vibe; even if it isn't what you're into, the cause is worth the money.
