Recently, at London's Playboy Club (yes, apparently, Playboy Clubs still exist), world-renowned mixologist Salvatore Calabrese unveiled the world's most expensive cocktail. ---

It's called "Salvatore's Legacy" and it'll run up your bar tab by about $8,800 per order.

What makes this mixed drink so budget busting? Well, it's made from 40 ml of 1788 Clos de Griffier Vieux Cognac, 20 ml of 1860 Dubb Orange Curacao, 20 ml of 1770 Kummel Liqueur and two dashes of Angostura Bitters from the early 1900s.

Calabrese's attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most expensive cocktail was nearly thwarted when, a few months ago, a bottle of rare liqueur was broken. "I was devastated when my bottle smashed and thought my dream of breaking the world record was over, but, thankfully, it has all worked out and nothing will stop me now," said Calabrese.

Describing it as "730 years of liquid history in a glass," it seems to me that Calabrese missed a golden opportunity by using a big chunk of regular ice to mix the cocktail with rather than frozen angels' tears or a chunk of Arctic glacier. Surely, that could've driven the price up even further.
