Glad You Asked: Brother Ali, Capleton and David Levithan

Dear GYA, I'm still sleepy (yawn) from watching that Red Bull space jump yesterday. No explosions. No guitar solos. Nothing. Just a guy jumping from a balloon. Seriously, I've sat through MLS games more interesting than that. Honest to God, MLS games. ---Anything going down today that won't put me to sleep? Beatrice Maloney, Logan

Beatrice, you weren't the only one who was waiting for that capsule to explode while hearing a Slash solo playing in the background. Red Bull sure has gone soft. Here are a few things that are slightly more exciting:

Minnesota rapper Brother Ali will be at Urban Lounge tonight. Signed to Rhymesayers Entertainment, Ali is considered one of the leaders in conscious, positive rap music. He recently released his fifth album, Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color. The doors open at 9 p.m.

Dancehall pioneer Capleton will be onstage at Park City Live. The Jamaica-based artist has been a household name in the reggaeton-dancehall scene for years. Not really a "positive vibrations" artist, a lot of his music focuses on gun-play and "slackness." The Prophecy Band will open things up. The doors open at 9 p.m.

Young-adult fiction writer David Levithan will be at The King's English Bookshop this evening. The best-selling author will be reading and signing his lastest book, Every Day, which focuses a teenager who wakes up every morning with his consciousness inside another person's body. Sort of like Groundhog Day meets Quantum Leap. The signing starts at 7 p.m.

Other worthwhile events today:

- A free Halloween Magic Show will be going down at the Weber County Main library, starting at 7 p.m.

- Empress Theatre's presentation of Urinetown starts up at 7:30 p.m.

- The Republican will be hosting Pub Quiz Night, beginning at 9:30 p.m.
