For Wine Wednesday this week, we're going to veer a little off course from the fermented grape to fermented rice. Did you know that, as with sushi, there are customs and etiquette around serving and drinking sake? --- Well, thanks to the folks at Benihana, you can now drink sake feeling confident that you're not making a sake faux pas

According to Benihana, and in line with traditional Japanese culture, these are the guidelines you should follow when drinking sake. It's pretty interesting stuff.

***Never pour sake into your own cup. Sake should be poured either by the host, hostess or other individuals in a group.

***When pouring sake, the flask should be held by one hand at the top with the palm facing down.

***Always hold the sake cup with both hands while it is being filled. Once the cup is full, place the filled cup in front of you.

***Wait to take a sip until everyone's cup has been filled and a toast has been made.

If you'd like to try out your newly earned sake etiquette at our local Benihana, it's located at 165 S. West Temple in Salt Lake City. Phone 801-322-2421 for reservations.
