Tuesday, the Salt Lake City Prison Divestment Campaign will kick off Phase 2 of its goal of curbing the influence of the for-profit prison industry on public policies that make money off our incarceration nation.---
The SLC Prison Divestment campaign is part of a national organization, but one that has its work cut out for it in Utah, where Centerville’s Management and Training Corporation is one of the nation’s largest private prison profiteers. Local activists will talk about how to raise awareness of the Utah company’s role in public policy, as well as how ending the war on drugs and combating immigration-detention facilities can help further the goal of beating back an industry whose bottomline profits off the steady, unabated imprisonment of American citizens.
