The Hack Stamp: HIT & RUN

Ah, there's nothing like a movie about cars to get the Shalit-esque critic puns flowing. ---

The action road comedy Hit & Run has divided critics as to its effectiveness, but both those who like it and those who don't can manage to find a car-related reference to represent their feelings. To wit: “Like the muscle cars it lovingly features, Hit & Run idles effectively, revs and takes off with frisky energy, and knows just when to cruise.” – Claudia Puig, USA Today

“…it achieves its chief goal: to put the pedal to the metal for some good, goofy fun, squealing the tires as often as possible along the way.” – Mike Scott, Times-Picayune

Hit & Run is a race to ridiculousness, but at the same time it's a bit of a gas.” – Tom Long, Detroit News

“Doesn't crash and burn, but it doesn't exactly sail across the finish line a winner, either.” – Frank Swietek, One Guy’s Opinion

“It's like a car doing doughnuts, driving in circles while going nowhere fast.” – Marshall Fine, Hollywood & Fine

“It burns rubber out of the gate, whips cleanly through all four gears, and after a clever pit stop or two, zooms across the finish line.” – Gary Wolcott, Tri-City Herald

“…if you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy with a little extra horsepower, chances are you'll enjoy letting Shepard and company take the wheel while you strap in and switch off your brain.” – Jason Buchanan, TV Guide’s Movie Guide

As ever, we're faced with the challenging question of what to do with those who are self-aware about their Hack Stampery, but indulge in it anyway:

“It doesn't just blow a flat tire. Think of all the Shalit-esque puns you can about a disastrous experience in a car and apply them to this lurching mess…” – Brian Tallerico,

And then there's this, which I would almost be shocked if it hadn't been used by somebody:

Hit & Run is awfully hit & miss.” – Rick Groen, Globe and Mail
