Dear GYA, Is there anything more aggravating than waiting for a stranger to pick a movie from a Red Box? It's my personal hell. I just think that if you browse that thing for more than five minutes and you sure as hell know that I'm standing right behind you, anxiously waiting to return my copy of 21 Jump Street, then I should be allowed to kill you. Michelle, it's tough to be patient but you have to suppress your rage. Instead of killing them, I believe that after five minutes you should be allowed to pick their movie. Go for gems like LOL, The Human Centipede 2 or The Three Stooges. Here are some options for tonight ...
Contemporary-folk singer Shawn Colvin will be performing at Park City Live this evening. Colvin won a Grammy for her 1998 song, "Sonny Came Home" (which you've probably heard at least 500 times on any easy-listening station) and her 1991 album Steady On. Tickets are $35 in advance. The shows starts at 9 p.m.
In place of Passion Pit, the Twilight concert Series will be hosting The Divine Fits tonight at Pioneer Park. For the unfamiliar, the band is an indie-rock super group of sorts consisting of Britt Daniel of Spoon, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade and the Handsome Furs, plus Sam Brown of the New Bomb Turks. The band has only played a few times since the convergence, so tonight's show should be interesting. Tickets are $5 and the show starts at 5 p.m.
The electro-DJs at Nightfreq will be throwing their final dance party over at W Lounge this evening. The Nightfreq crew has been a regular fixture at W Lounge for some time now and have statistically always thrown a good EDM party. Since this will probably be the last time you'll hear these kids perform at this legendary venue, I highly recommend checking this one out. Sets by Typefunk, Cedes, MSTRSHRDR and Hunter. The show starts at 9 p.m. Admission is free before 10:30 p.m.
A few other worthwhile events:
- Indie bands Animal Kingdom and The Neighborhood will be performing at Kilby Court, beginning at 7 p.m.
- The Utah Botanical Center will be holding a Farmers Market at 5 p.m.
- Utah author Florence Shepard will be reading and signing her book Sometimes Creek: A Wyoming Memoir at The King's English Bookshop, starting at 7 p.m.
