Chinese-American hybrid-folk band Matteo launched the 35th anniversary season of the lunchtime music series today.---

Amongst a set that included originals and a Talking Heads and an Andrew Bird tune, Matteo performed new songs written during their recent 30-day residency in China (listen to a recent Radio West show featuring the band after they returned). An EP with the songs will be released later the month, the band said. Matteo pleased brown baggers with a soundtrack to their lunch and anecdotes from the East.

This set at Exchange Place marked the first of 25 shows this August. All shows are located at various spots downtown and are free and open to the public. The year’s lineup offers something for everyone -- a mix that includes genres from blues to classical, street jazz to indie rock, and beyond, all performed by Utah’s finest musicians. The Brown Bag Concert Series is produced by the Salt Lake City Arts Council. For more information on the series, go here.

“Over the past three decades, the series has presented more than 1,500 concerts in plazas, parks, shopping malls, tennis courts, buses, and even elevators, throughout Salt Lake City,” stated a press release. The Brown Bag Concert Series is the longest-running daily concert series of its kind in the country.
