After watching the Olympics in London, you’ll probably be thinking two things: 1. We should take a trip to London; 2. I wish they’d quit playing the Clash’s “London Calling” as a way to sell stuff. We can’t help you with the second one, but on the first one, yes, you should go to London. ---

There are all sorts of things that pop immediately to mind to see and do -- the London Eye, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, etc. Here are three suggestions that aren’t as well known that are nevertheless classically British.

Ceremony of the Keys
The Ceremony of the Keys has taken place every night for over 700 years as the Beefeaters, also known as Yeomen of the Guard, lock up the Tower of London (which is still a working fortress and holds the crown jewels) for the night. As with all things British, there’s lots of pomp and ceremony, and you get to follow the guards through Bloody Tower Archway, the site of hundreds of years of English history.

It’s an intimate experience since only a small number of people are allowed to attend each night. If you want to go, you’ll need to order tickets in writing -- this is tradition, so no text or e-mail - well beforehand. Click here to find out how to do so.

Tea at the Orangery
A visit to Kensington Palace, former residence of Princess Di, is worth a visit in its own right. While there, walk next door to the Orangery to have the British afternoon tea experience complete with scones and clotted cream and those wonderful little sandwiches with the crusts cut off.

London Shows
We generally think of New York’s Broadway as the place for live theater and musicals, but London’s theater scene is where many musicals such as Billy Elliott get their start before traveling to the States. An evening of theater is a great way to relax after spending all day being about town. Check here for more info.
