In March, nearly a million protected health records were breached, exposing countless Utahns to possible identity theft at the hands of hackers. Now, the Utah Department of Health is hosting a series of workshops across the state -- including the first in Salt Lake City this Thursday -- to discuss what Utahns should know about the breach.---

UDOH will be touring the state to provide one-on-one guidance to Utahns about what they need to know about the breach and how to protect their identities. The outreach effort comes after a computer was hacked into at the Utah Department of Technology Services and information was taken, not only from Medicaid clients but also from many persons on private insurance. The outreach effort will be a good opportunity for victims to see how to protect themselves and avail themselves of services offered by the state.

The free workshops will run until the end of August. Currently, victims of the breach are being offered a year's worth of free credit monitoring by the state to see if their data has been compromised. You can attend any of the workshops, or call the state’s toll free hot line 1-855-238-3339
