Dear GYA, I guess I had a purdy good 4th of July yesterday. It jers didn't feel right to let off fireworks this yir on account of all dem wildfires. So we decided to do the right thing -- and we put about 35 rounds into the shootin' car out back. Yes sir, nothin's more patriotic than shootin' the hell out of an '87 Ford pickup. Well, we're all outta ammo so anything else to do today? Randall Jenkins---

Randall, I'm glad you're so concerned about the fires. Luckily, for you there are a few things happening today that aren't combustible:

At Pioneer Park, the Twilight Concert Series kicks off with performances by Beach House and The Walkmen. The indie-pop duo Beach House has been endorsed by such supergroups as Animal Collective, Portishead and even Jay-Z. Remember, tickets are still available for $5. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Foster The People will be performing at Great Saltair. Over the past few years, the Los Angeles-based indie-dance group known for their hatred of Reebok Pumps has grown from a group of struggling musicians to a trio of rock stars and has been nominated for multiple Grammys for their 2012 release Torches. Kimbra will be opening. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

The 19-year-old electro-house DJ and producer Porter Robinson will be on stage at In The Venue/Club Sound.  Known for his grimy, often dub-step-infused house music, Robinson has made quite a dent in the EDM scene over the past couple of years and has recently signed on to Skrillex's label OWSLA. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Other worthwhile events happening today:

- Every first Thursday of the month,  The Heritage Foundation will be putting on a Historic Pub Crawl focusing on Utah's most historical watering holes. The booze cruise starts at 5 p.m.

- Head to The King's English Bookshop and try out the Where's Waldo? Scavenger Hunt.

- The Salt Lake Bees will be taking on the Tacoma Raniers, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
