A 91-year-old man was the victim of a curious form of road rage last Friday night while leaving Walmart.---

Close to 4 p.m., the man had exited the store, at 350 W Hope Avenue, Salt Lake City, loaded the groceries into his car and was returning the shopping cart to Walmart. A SLCPD spokesman said the 91-year-old had told officers he was using the cart to help him walk.

A 55-year-old man driving in front of the store pulled up before the 91-year-old and honked his horn, apparently wanting him to move out of the way. When the elderly man did not move, surveillance tape shows that the driver, in what was apparently an intentional act, the spokesman said, accelerated into the shopping cart.

The shopper was knocked to the ground and subsequently transported to hospital for his injuries. Officers took the driver to jail, but the jail refused to take him, for medical issues.

The SLCPD spokesman said charges of aggravated assault would be screened by the district attorney against the driver.
