With 4/20 approaching this Friday, I find it apropos to start this week’s playlist with “Smoke Dope and Rap” by Andre Nickatina, who will be performing at In the Venue on said date to make sure Salt Lakecity has an appropriate commemoration for the occasion.---
But some weekends reach a point where, as Andre says, “the blunt went out, but we ain’t done yet.” If this is the case for this 4/20 weekend, there are plenty of live shows to keep things burning, like lots of good ol' traditional rock, as well as rock-inspired music with Bright Light Social Hour as well as The Cave Singers. And since 4/20 isn’t 4/20 without a jam band, Tea Leaf Green will jam out at The Urban Lounge on 4/21.
Jam bands, 4/20 and rock remind me of the hazy days of my youth in rural Illinois, which sometimes are better forgotten. So, I’m glad there is at least one big-name, electropop indie group like The Naked & Famous to keep me from reminiscing for too long. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to erase memories of back roads, the Allman Brohers and Pink Flamingos, but I think The Chain and the Gang’s “Bill for Use of a Body” will help me remember the good and laugh at the bad and the ugly. Happy 4/20!
