World Café takes over the red-eye airwaves weekday mornings on KRCL.---

Beginning Monday, April 30 at 6 a.m., 90.9 FM KRCL will air WXPN’s World Café Monday through Friday, 6-8 a.m.

For over 20 years, World Café host David Dye has introduced audiences to some of the best in music, which includes acts ranging from PJ Harvey to Beck, LCD Soundsystem to The Decemberists. Aside from Dye’s eclectic musical proclivities, the show’s lure  -- being syndicated on more than 250 public radio stations is a testament to this -- is Dye as a radio personality. He has a laid-back approach, and he gets interviews that no one else gets -- he’s conducted 4,500 in his 20 years.

“We’re very excited about introducing World Café to listeners along the Watsatch front. The show fits our programming philosophy perfectly,” says Vicki Mann, KRCL’s new GM. World Café has never aired on a Utah station.

“It’s also a counter-programming measure. The No. 1 adult show in the morning is X96’s Radio from Hell, so we’re not going to fight it,” Mann says. “We’re really getting back to what it is that we do best, which is music. “

The switch is to remain competitive and reallocate the station’s resources -- namely morning host Jaime Gadette. “We really want Jamie to have a bigger role at the radio station, and she can’t do that if she has to wake up at 5 a.m.,” Mann says.

Gadette will continue in the mornings from 8 to 11a.m., Ebay Jamil Hamilton will host midday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Bad Brad Wheeler will run afternoons from 2 to 6 p.m.

“I'm excited about moving to a later time slot and that I've been a fan of World Cafe for years. It's a good fit for the eclectic range of music that I deliver to a.m. audiences,” Gadette says. “I've always done behind-the-scenes work beyond my on-air shift,  and look forward to contributing more to the production end of things at KRCL, including becoming a more frequent presence on Radioactive.”
