Did you know the new movie John Carter was filmed in Utah? Did you? It was! Would you like to know more? ---

Local media and various governmental agencies have been doing cartwheels about the connection between Carter and various Utah locations that doubled as Arizona deserts and Martian landscapes. Today, marking the film's theatrical release, Disney is providing a little extra reminder by putting a number of props from the film on display. Until 5 p.m. today only, outside Council Hall (300 N. State, across the street from the Capitol building), find photo-op displays of massive banners and statues in the humanoid Thark community.

Meanwhile, are you as keen to learn how much the production of John Carter generated for the state as the Utah Film Commission is to tell you? According to a press release today from the office of Marshall Moore, director of the Film Commission, John Carter "generated nearly $20 million in economic benefit to the state, and created 275 production jobs for Utah-based production crew during the filming in 2010." And the release was sure to put in a plug for the next Disney production using Utah locations, the upcoming The Lone Ranger.
