Dear GYA, I’m sooo sick of Fridays. Lately, people have been coming up to me and saying stuff like “Hey Rebecca, what day is it?” I hate it. I don’t know why, but I feel like this day of the week has lost all meaning. –Rebecca B.---
Rebecca, don’t worry, because tomorrow is Saturday followed by Sunday and so forth. As for today, there’s plenty of partying to be had. If I were you, I would head over to the Art Access Gallery for the Art With A View II exhibit. It features work by local mixed-media artist Amber DeBrink. She uses crushed wine and sake bottles to create elaborate and sustainable sculptures. This is going down all day.
At 7 p.m. tonight, Sugar Space is hosting Hip Hop Roots. It’s a celebration of all things hip-hop featuring live performances from local artists, an open mic, live painting, break dancing and fire spinning. Admission is $10.
Lastly, go check out singer and marijuana enthusiast Afroman at Metro Bar. The Palmdale, Calif., native has been known to bust out his doubl- neck guitar as he sings about his adventures with weed and Colt 45. Whether you’re into the subject matter or not, he puts on a great show. C-Way and Big Alta will be opening.
Other things to do today that are fun, fun, fun, fun:
- Indie rockers Cloud Nothings, Mr. Dream and Laissez Bear at Kilby Court
- Pink Floyd tribute band Floydshow at Fats Grill and Pool
- G.Love and Special Sauce performing at The Depot
