Utah Film Critics pick DRIVE for Best Picture

The Utah Film Critics Association recognized the suspense thriller Drive with three awards, including Best Picture of 2011. ---

At the group's annual meeting Dec. 20, Utah-based print, broadcast and online film journalists also selected Albert Brooks' performance in Drive as best supporting actor, and the film's cinematography by Newton Thomas Sigel. Other performance awards included: Michelle Williams, best actress for My Week With Marilyn; Joseph Gordon-Levitt, best actor for 50/50; and Amy Ryan, best supporting actress for Win Win.

Best director recognition went to Michael Hazanavicius for the silent film The Artist (scheduled to open in Salt Lake City Jan. 13). Screenplay nods included 50/50 for original screenplay and The Descendants for adapted screenplay. Specialty awards went to Rango (animated feature), A Separation (non-English language feature, due in SLC Feb. 17) and Senna (documentary).
