Logitech Ultimate Ears announced this morning that they will host a free show at the Gallivan Center tonight, featuring Florida-based pop rockers Anberlin.---

The Facebook post this morn read: “Salt Lake City music lovers and Anberlin fans … big news! Tonight, Anberlin will be putting on a free show for you at The Gallivan Center in downtown SLC at 7 p.m.! Come early for a chance to meet with the band and walk away with free Ultimate Ears gear.”

Ultimate Ears -- owned by Logitech since 2008 -- specializes in quality earphones for everyone, and, moreso, in in-ear monitors for musicians. The idea was conceived in 1995 by Alex Van Halen, sound engineer for, that’s right, Van Halen, says Ultimate Ears general manager Philippe Depallens. The idea was to give musicians an articulate and reliable way to hear what they are doing on stage -- so as to not get drowned out by crowd noise or sub-par on-stage monitors -- to enhance the live music experience. Now, Ultimate Ears boasts a bevy of national touring musicians who use their product, including Aerosmith, Band of Horses, Radiohead and hundreds more.

The main product is built to perfectly fit in the customer’s ea r-- and can range from several hundred dollars to over a thousand. In 2005, Ultimate Ears launched a universal fit-in-ear monitor to make the exquisite product more accessible to musicians who might not have lots of spare change to fork out. But, it’s worth the money, if you look at it in the right light, says Depallens. He continues by giving an example of musicians taking out a second mortgage (not literally, in most cases) to buy that vintage Les Paul or fancy-pants synthesizer, but are unaware as to how they could benefit from this technology -- it’s an investment, says Depallens.

Anberlin attests to it, so much so that they will rock out at Gallivan Center tonight. Of all the bands that use Ultimate Ears, why choose this one, you might ask? Well, Depallens says that in an online interview UE did with the band, they said this was, hands-down, their favorite place to perform (see, not every band that says that when they come through is blowing smoke up your arse).
