As a busy holiday-movie season kicks into gear, bargain theaters offer a second look at a catchy 1980s remake. ---

Co-writer/director Craig Brewer's version of Footloose is actually less a remake than it is a revival -- a version of a familiar musical story that changes little and still proves surprisingly satisfying, with Utah's own Julianne Hough sharing the central romance with Kenny Wormald. The characters, perhaps paradoxically, exist in a world where the original Footloose is a cultural touchstone, but that doesn't make it any less fun when someone stands up and yells out, "Let's dance!"
