Do you know where you are? You're in the holiday-season jungle, baby!---
And you can be among the literally dozens of people who are on hand at the Maverik Center in West Valley City to check out Axl Rose and the band of hired guns passing themselves off as Guns n' Roses these days. On the one hand, you'll get to hear all your old GnR faves, sung by Axl himself and played with skill by a half-dozen or so dudes backing him up. On the other hand, guys like Slash and Duff were such a part of GnR's personality in the good ol' days that it might be hard to watch. If you go, let us know how it was.
Out at The Saltair, it's the X96 Nightmare before Xmas show, featuring the jokester pop-rockers Cake on top of the bill, as well as The Naked & Famous and local Brogan Kelby.
The Main Library is hosting the complete opposite of a GnR concert, a screening of Being Elmo, a winning documentary about the man behind the puppet. It starts at 7 p.m., and unlike Axl, you know it will start on time.
The State Room is playing host to Other Lives, with JBM opening; Other Lives will be opening dates for Radiohead in 2012, so check 'em out club-size while you can -- the band might be on its way to bigger and better things, and soon. Over at Kilby Court, The Fling and Yukon Blonde bring some pop-rock to town for a 7 p.m. show.
