I've compiled an extensive list of can't-miss sparkling wines for the New Year's issue of City Weekly (Dec. 22) -- bubbles for every budget. But, if you want to get a sneak peek and a head start on your holiday booze shopping, here's a bubbly that's a no-brainer. --- Priced a few dollars less than good Prosecco, Rotari Talento Brut Rose NV is a terrific Italian sparkling wine. It flies a little under the radar, since it's not called "Prosecco."

Rotari Rose is produced under the strict standards of the Trento D.O.C. in the metodo classico (classic method). That means it's created in the traditional manner, with secondary fermentation in the bottle, using Chardonnay (25%) and Pinot Nero (75%) grapes. The wine is bottle-aged for a minimum of 24 months

Priced at a mere $13.99, this elegant Rose sparkler is a steal. Delicate fruit and rose aromas give way to luscious strawberry and baked-bread flavors, with a hint of cranberry. And, the the pretty, light copper/salmon pink color would look festive on any holiday table. By the way, I think this sparkling wine would be an excellent match for a holiday turkey, ham, or seafood dishes. The dry, crisp bubbly would also be ideal as an aperitif to greet holiday guests with -- very classy, with tons of finesse.

So, instead of reaching for Prosecco, offer your holiday guests something a little more unusual and intriguing this holiday season: Rotari Talento Brut Rose NV.
