Cancer comedy and a 3-D take on a classic lead the new offerings at local bargain theaters this weekend. ---

50/50 follows 27-year-old Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) after receiving a diagnosis of a rare spinal cancer with a coin-flip chance of survival. The fact-based story offers plenty of great individual moments, including another offbeat, adorable performance by Anna Kendrick as Adam's therapist. It's a frustration that it's never entirely clear what this story is really about: the relationship between Adam and his best friend (Seth Rogen); his internal struggle with mortality; his clashes with his mother. There are halves of plenty of great movies here, adding up only to one good one.

The latest version of The Three Musketeers apparently couldn't even achieve that much. CW's MaryAnn Johanson described it as "leaden where it should be light ... The epitome of empty soulless corporate filmmaking." All for one, and no fun for all.
