Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart, R-Provo, and other members of the Legislative Redistricting Committee will discuss the brutal map-making process at a University of Utah forum Wednesday.---

In an all-night meeting Monday, the Legislature finally approved a congressional map that divided Salt Lake County into three slices and combined large rural sections of the state with more populous areas like Salt Lake City and Davis County. It was the dramatic conclusion to a process that has the state Democratic party threatening to sue over, and that activists have criticized as dividing Utah’s communities of interest over in order to protect political incumbents.

For a blow-by-blow recap of what’s happened in the redistricting process that has set in stone the maps that will guide Utahns for the next 10 years in electing their state legislators, congressional representatives and school board members, you won’t want to miss this forum presented by the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah. Along with Speaker Lockhart, and other representatives of the Redistricting Committee, the forum will include John Fellows, Legislative Counsel for the Redistricting Committee.

Check it out: Wednesday, Oct. 19, 10:45 -11:45 a.m., University of Utah, 260 S. Central Campus Drive.
