For one night at the movies, it’s gonna feel like it’s the summer of 1984 all over again. ---

Across the country, the original Ghostbusters is beginning a three-week barnstorming tour of one-showing-per-night screenings at selected theaters tonight (Oct. 13). As rumors circulate about a reunion for a third installment, catch up on the adventures of “paranormal exterminators” Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson). Local locations include Cinemark 24 Jordan Landing, Megaplex 17 Jordan Commons and Megaplex 12 Gateway.

If you’re willing to wait for one of the Oct. 20 or Oct. 27 Ghostbusters screening dates, maybe you can satisfy your jones for ’84 with Gremlins. Before he went on to direct Home Alone and Harry Potter movies, a young screenwriter named Chris Columbus created the story of strange, cuddly creatures that multiplied when they got wet, burned up in the daylight and got particularly nasty if you fed them after midnight. The event is a fundraiser for the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and your $20 admission for this “Cancer Bites” double feature at Brewvies also includes the 1963 Twilight Zone gremlin-featuring segment “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” plus a T-shirt. Showtime is 7 p.m.
