Lounge Act Weekend: Kathy Griffin, Dick Dale, STAX legends, more

There are a slew of excellent possibilities for your entertainment needs this weekend, from Kathy Griffin's comedy to some soul legends out of Memphis. Check out some of our suggestions.---
FRIDAY
D-List comedienne/actress Kathy Griffin continues her reign of terror over celebrity-dom at Abravanel Hall Friday night.
Big D and the Kids Table bring their skatastic sounds to In The Venue Friday night, and it's hard to beat ska when you want to dance for hours on end to hot horns and guys playing actual instruments instead of laptops. Guitar god Dick Dale (pictured) brings his classic surfy sounds to Liquid Joe's for what could be the best show of the night. Local psych-rockers Spell Talk celebrate the release of a new CD at a show at The Urban Lounge, joined by Max Pain & the Groovies and Dark Seas. And The Low Anthem bring a more delicate sound to the stage of The State Room.

SATURDAY
Local countrified rockers Bronco are launching a tour by playing a gig at one of my favorite dives, Willie's Lounge. A portion of drink profits and all merch sales will go toward helping launch the band toward the Northwest.
Up at the Eccles Center for Performing Arts in Park City, Memphis Soul: The Music of STAX Records brings a bunch of legendary musicians to town, including Steve Cropper, Eddie Floyd and Donald "Duck" Dunn, to deliver awesome soul classics like "Green Onions" and "Knock on Wood."
The Sugar Space is hosting Rumble Motion Jawbone: A Tale from the Land of Frightful Dreams, a modern-dance excursion sure to be unlike any dance performance you'll see elsewhere.
SUNDAY
The Salty Streets Flea Market ends its summer season with a day-long sale and a bunch of good tunes at Kilby Court. It starts at noon.
