Yes, it's Monday night, but that doesn't mean you can't get your party on, right?---
At The Depot tonight, everyone who gets stuck on VH1's I Love the '80s! reruns as they channel-surf will have some honest-to-God '80s musical heroes to worship. The Psychedelic Furs are the headliners, and Richard Butler and Co. are always good for a live show full of memorable hits like "Love My Way" and "Pretty in Pink." For my money, though, the real attraction comes with the openers; Tom Tom Club (pictured) is led by the husband-and-wife rhythm section of Talking Heads—Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz—and their dub, world-beat and funk jams are always good. And when's the last time you heard "Genius of Love" and didn't dance, even if you were sitting in your car?
Up at Libby Gardner Hall, the Virtuoso Series kicks off with the Tambuco Percussion Ensemble, a group of four Mexican avant-garde percussionists who have been nominated for three Grammys.
And at the Utah State Fair Monday night, it's the soothing sounds of Weird Al Yankovic! You know you want some of that!
