Lounge Act Weekend: Festivals, frivolity and freaks of all sorts

While you pause sometime this week for a little contemplation about the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, don't forget to get your party on. If you don't, the terrorists win.---
FRIDAY
The Dew Tour Toyota Challenge isn't a bad place to start. Taking over some parking lots and stretches of streets downtown, the extreme-sports event will go all weekend, and get SLC some hype on national TV, too. Utah band The Used will even provide some entertainment. And the annual crazy scene that is the Salt Lake City Greek Festival starts Friday and goes all weekend at the Greek Orthodox Church.
One of the best live shows of the year heads our way via Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, playing at Kingsbury Hall Friday night.
Park City's Egyptian Theatre presents longtime fave The Fantasticks, a record-setting musical that is sure to charm the musical-theater-inclined. And The Organ Loft in SLC offers another bit of old-timey fun with Landmarks of Early Cinema, featuring some of the oldest film clips in U.S. history for your viewing pleasure.
And if comedy is your thing, two-fifths of The Kids in the Hall—Kevin McDonald and Scott Thompson—will perform together at the West Valley City Wiseguys at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
SATURDAY
Saturday is the 10th annual Pagan Pride Day, this year being held at Murray Central Park. And it is also the annual Avenues Street Fair. Flip a coin if you can't choose.

Another great musical option is the CD release party of The Plastic Furs (pictured), being held Saturday at The Garage. Read our story about the band's new tunes, then make your way to Beck Street.
Duncan Phillips and Kate MacLeod are playing at Ken Sanders Rare Books on Saturday, part of the ongoing project to preserve Utah Phillips' legacy.
SUNDAY
The 25th Annual Festival of India is going down Sunday at the Krishna Temple. The Urban Flea Market returns to Washington Square. And Portland's Viva Voce headlines what is sure to be a great show at The Urban Lounge.
