Silent Vs. Inattentive

After his initial congressional run in Hawaii failed, itinerant political hopeful John Willoughby has his sights on Rep. Jim Matheson's seat.---

According to Willoughby, "I believe Matheson has got to go. He’s silent. He’s inattentive."

Silent and inattentive: It's a rather mild indictment, coming from a tea partier. (Where are the typical wild-eyed accusations of communism and treason?) By comparison with his fellow tea party travelers, Willoughby seems demure, almost reasonable.

But how do his accusations stack up?

It's difficult to think of any politician -- even a mild-mannered paleoconservative like Matheson -- as "silent." They're always blathering on about some damned thing or another. And as for "inattentive," it's all relative in the world of politics.
