This weekend and Monday the Legislature will be meeting on the redistricting plan that will draw political boundaries that—depending on how you look at it—will either unite Utah communities of interest or divide them for political gain. The plans once finalized, will be final until after the 2020 census.---

The first legislative redistricting meeting will be Friday, at 9 a.m. Prior to the meeting a rally will be held by Alliance for a Better Utah, who will be challenging legislators to listen to the public input received by a special Redistricting Committee that has for the last 9 weeks been touring the state of Utah to field concerns. That committee took comments and discussed proposed maps for voting districts that will elect everyone from U.S. congress members to state legislators and school board members.

The Friday Redistricting Committee meeting will be focused on reviewing publicly submitted maps.

On Monday, Aug. 22, the committee will meet again and focus in on school board and state senate plans, and may even take action on these plans. If there is time remaining there will be more review of publicly submitted plans.

Check ‘em out: Friday Aug. 19, at 9 a.m. and Monday Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. Both meetings will be at the Utah State Capitol, 350 N. State, Senate Building 210.
