If you are penny pinchin' because the economy is down, or you're just plain frugal but still desire to experience some culture and indulgence, then look no further. Each week, Events for Cents will inform the masses about the fun, the free, the charming and the cheap.---

Music
Brown Bag Concert Series
“Over the past 34 years the Brown Bag Concert Series has presented well over a thousand concerts in plazas, parks, shopping malls, tennis courts, buses, and even elevators, throughout Salt Lake City,” says the event’s website. This year, throughout the month of August, the series will offer nearly as much diversity in the form of musical genres. Swing by for some sun and blues, some cheese and hip-hop, sandwiches and Americana and everything in between. Check out their Website for a schedule of performers.
Salt Lake City & County Building, 451 State, Aug. 8-12; City Creek Park, State & 2nd Avenue, Aug. 15-19; 12:15-1 p.m., Free.

Special Events & Festivals
Craft Lake City
“2011 brings our third annual Craft Lake City,” says Angela Brown, CLC director and SLUG magazine’s editor and publisher. “Our alternative goods will redefine the meaning of the word craft for a lot of Utahns. In addition, with the Gallivan Center’s recent remodel, we now have room for two stages, 21 performing acts and eight different food and beer vendors.” That’s a lot more crafts—er, art—to love.
Gallivan Center, 239 S. Main, Saturday, Aug. 13, 2-9 p.m., CraftLakeCity.com, Free.

Pub Activities
Ladies Who Lunch: Pin-Up Girls
Celebrating the style of the ‘40s and ‘50s, Ladies Who Lunch will have a soiree at Bar X just for the ladies—sorry, gents. There will be special themed drinks and snacks for the event. The party is free, and photo mini sessions start at $59 but don’t have to be purchased to join the wingding.
Bar X, 155 E. 200 South, Sunday, Aug. 14, 2-6 p.m., Free.
