Twilight Concert Series: Explosions in the Sky, No Age
Last year’s first Twilight show with Modest Mouse was a clusterfuck. Here’s to hoping that the experimental and instrumental sounds of Explosions in the Sky will be a more merry and manageable endeavor. Next week’s The Decemberists/Typhoon show might be a different story, though. No Age will start tonight’s show.

James Rollins: Devil Colony
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author James Rollins will read from and sign his latest thriller, The Devil Colony, which delves into the (fictional) murky waters of the truth hidden within the pages of the Book of Mormon. Sounds kind of like The Da Vinci Code with a Mormon twist.

18th Annual Antelope by Moonlight Bike Ride
The annual 22-mile pavement ride around Antelope Island takes place under the glow of a full moon and temperatures that are closer to comfortable. It starts at the Antelope Island Marina, and the halfway point is the historic Fielding Garr Ranch, where refreshments are served and prizes are awarded. The cost is a bit steep for this blog, but proceeds from the ride are used for visitor-oriented projects on the island and, well, it is a pretty cool event. The 2011 theme is “The Deathly Shallows.”

Salt Lake City Gallery Stroll
Galleries around downtown and beyond open their doors for extended hours tonight, with many hosting artist's receptions. Keep your eyes peeled for a Gallery Stroll Best Bets blog that I will post on Friday. But, for now, it’s worth mentioning to be sure to check out the street fair on Pierpont Ave. from 400 West to 300 West and the fruit-related events at the Salt Lake Art Center.

Children & Family
UMFA: Third Saturday for Families
Within the UMFA's permanent European collection hang frames almost as splendid as the paintings themselves. Guests are encouraged to use them to gather ideas for constructing gilded and flashy frames to surround their art at home.
