Salt Lake Art Center curator Micol Hebron (pictured above) joins us for the second installment of this podcast, recorded live at The Beehive Tearoom. Hebron has put together an exhibition at the Jancar Gallery located in the Los Angeles Chinatown district, titled West of Center. It will feature 23 Utah artists, thus introducing them to this international art market. It runs from July 16-August 6, 2011.
Hebron speaks with City Weekly about the artistic climate in Utah, the premise behind the exhibition and a forecast of what this might mean for these artists. She also touches on how these artists are using contemporary art to express the gravity of the Western landscape and humans’ interaction with animals, including Morganne Wakefield’s (pictured above holding meat balls) work, which delves into radical feminism as it relates to ranching.
