Chill out with Washed Out or take a retrospective look at some classic rockers.---

Maybe it’s just me, but whenever I listen to “chill wave” I want to stop what I’m doing, prop my feet up and drink a frozen margarita. It’s probably just the name of the musical movement more than the synthy, wavering tunes, but I can raise a glass to chill- wave frontrunner Washed Out and his newest and most excellent effort Within and Without.

The legendary punk rock trio Alkaline Trio put out an album of acoustic(ish) renditions of some of the finer points in their extended catalog on Damnesia. They will be playing in Salt Lake City tonight.

Athens, Ga., rockers R.E.M. put out a collection of unreleased demos from over the years on a reissue of the aptly named album Lifes Rich Pageant.

Luther Russel’s fifth full-length album sounds as if it were taken straight out of a movie and put in your headphones. With wispy musical interludes mixed in with some rollicking, twangy guitar riffs, The Invisible Audience will take you to another place.

Just say yes to Yes. It’s hard to believe that they are grown up now, reaching legal limit with their 21st album of rock that is as good as anything they’ve put out on the 20 other releases.

Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players bring their jangly folk out of the closet, shines it up real nice and presents it on Lost & Found, an album that paints pictures of Americana with sounds, at times, reminiscent of Moldy Peaches.
