Fourth of July festivities

With an abundance of fireworks displays, family-friendly activities and festivals, the hardest decision this weekend is going to be just how many light shows you can handle.
Centerville just can’t wait for the big ka-boom day and are having early fireworks starting on July 1 at Founders Park.
The Utah Symphony will host two evenings of patriotic songs starting Friday at Sundance and moving to Deer Valley on Saturday.
The town of North Salt Lake kickstarts their festivities on Saturday with the annual 5K starting at 7 a.m.. After a bevy of other patriotic festivities, the fireworks display will launch from Eaglewood Golf Course.
A motor race followed by fireworks—you might just cry red, white and blue. Rocky Mountain Raceways revs up the holiday festivities, starting at 4 p.m., with the fireworks display beginning at 10 p.m. on July 2.
It just seems wrong to be taking turns on snow to celebrate Independence Day, but Snowbird has the snow, so they are keeping the mountains open until July 4. On that day, Snowbird will host a pancake breakfast, a Dixie Land-themed band, BBQ and, of course, skiing and riding.
Down in Provo Brad Paisley and David Archuleta will play LaVell Edwards Stadium for the Stadium of Fire 4th of July Celebration, although it will be on July 2. And if that’s not enough big-time country for Utah, Ty Herndon will play over in Tooele.
Beat the heat and head up to Park City this weekend. The Canyons will have live music from The Soulistics starting at 7:30 on July 3, followed by a free fireworks display.
And on The Big Day, there are too many fireworks shows to write a paragraph for each. If one is close or looks interesting to you, click on it for more information: Cedar City, Clearfield, Layton, Murray, Sandy, Sugarhouse, Thanksgiving Point and This is the Place Heritage Park.
However, it is worth singling out the Bula Festival at Liberty Park. In addition to a ginormous fireworks show, the legendary reggae band, The Wailers, will perform for free. Check out City Weekly’s interview with the festival founder, NFL football player Sione Po'uha here.
Have a festive weekend, and, without sounding too old-fashioned, be safe. For information of UTA holiday schedule (to avoid any DUI trouble) look up your route here; in a press release sent out today, UTA stated that on July 4 they will operate on a Sunday schedule, but with extended evening hours to accommodate fireworks-watchers.
