You used to have to wait a year or more for the latest work by your favorite authors. Now you can get their stuff 140 characters at a time -- and sometimes more. ---

The following represents just a sampling of the Utah-based authors whose Twitterings can give you insight into their work, their everyday lives and (since this is Twitter) the things that drive them absolutely nuts.

Dan Wells (@johncleaver): The author of the terrifically chilling John Cleaver trilogy (I Am Not a Serial Killer, Mr. Monster, I Don't Want to Kill You) is a fairly regular tweeter who regularly revels in his geek-culture loves, and generally talks back to his fans. His fun, clever entries show another side of the guy behind some rockin' supernatural horror.

Ally Condie (@allycondie): Condie's Matched -- the first in a planned trilogy -- became the latest "it" YA speculative fiction tale when it was published in 2010. Her entries are often conversational bits about her family life, though she also provides links to longer blog entries about her work.

Sara Zarr (@sarazarr): The young-adult author (Story of a Girl, Once Was Lost) interacts regularly with the many other Utah young-adult writers on Twitter, and also links to her insightful, personal blog entries, often with a spiritual focus.

Brandon Mull (@brandonmull): His Fablehaven series has been a favorite of kids far beyond the borders of the state. His tweeting tends to be sporadic -- his last entry as of this writing was June 2 -- including a mix of announcements about signings and personal appearances with anecdotes about his family.

Shannon Hale (@haleshannon): The prolific author of picture books, graphic novels, youth fiction and more tweets a solid mix of links, thoughts about YA literature and personal notes.
