You can always tell when summer arrives, thanks to weekends full of every sort of festival imaginable. There's a bunch this weekend, along with plenty of music and other activities to fill your next 48 hours.---

FRIDAY

The festivals get going today, and one that's sort of slipped into the schedule quietly is the Clean the Air Fair at the Gallivan Center. It's an eco-friendly gathering to teach folks about cutting down on their pollutin' ways, and includes tunes from the likes of the Folka Dots and the B.D. Howes Band. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Down Thanksgiving Point way, the 37th Annual Scottish Days and Highland Games runs Friday (starting at 5 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.), so bust out that kilt in the back of your closet and go south. In Ogden up north, the 8th annual Ogden Arts Festival kicks off Friday at Union Station, so hop on Frontrunner and get ready to rage as only O-town knows how. And here in SLC, you can't forget about the Dark Arts Festival at Area 51, where you can get your gothic-industrial groove on; read our story about it here, then check it out tonight. The very first Salt Lake Comedy Festival also launches tonight, over at the Grand Theatre.

The music offerings Friday are a diverse lot. You have Adrian and the Sickness headlining a night of kick-ass rock & roll at Burt's Tiki Lounge, the alt-pop sounds of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. at Kilby Court, and the straightforward Americana-rock of Jason Isbell at The State Room. He's my fave of the night; read our interview with Jason Isbell here and then check out the show later.

You can also find the City Weekly Street Team partying at the Green Pig Pub Friday, as one of our favorite bars holds a grand opening for its fat new rooftop patio. Get there early or you'll never fit.

SATURDAY

The Depot hosts hard-rock supergroup Black Country Communion on Saturday night, while Manchester Orchestra is sure to deliver a night of epic-if-gloomy rock at In the Venue Saturday.

The Downtown Farmers Market makes its 2011 debut Saturday morning, and you'll want to be there early to get the good produce this early in the season. And we have another festival to delve into thanks to the Utah Asian Festival at South Towne Center, starting at 10 a.m.

SUNDAY

Winding up the weekend, you can catch Big Head Todd & the Monsters and Toots & the Maytals Sunday at Red Butte Garden. And the Park Silly Sunday Market is always a good time. You'll find me at the Salt Lake Bees game after a stop at Lucky 13, watching the San Francisco Giants' "Kung Fu Panda" Pablo Sandoval play for the Fresno squad while he recovers from an injury.
