Salt Lake City appearances by authors and musical artists highlight this dreary Monday.---

Monday at Sam Weller's at 6 p.m., author Katie Arnold Ratliff arrives to read from her debut novel, Bright Before Us. Ratliff is a magazine writer and editor for Oprah's O, but this book is far from fluffy celebrity fare.

At The Depot Monday, music legend Leon Russell comes to town to play from his extensive catalog of rock classics, plus tunes from his well-received 2010 album with Elton John called The Union.

In the Venue has a headlining gig by Of Montreal, pictured, the Georgia-based art-rockers who are as visually arresting as they are aurally appealing. Their gig last fall was a gem, and tonight should provide more of the same.
