SLC Film Center: Freedom Riders
This is the story of more than four hundred Americans who participated in a bold and dangerous experiment designed to awaken the conscience of a complacent nation. These self-proclaimed, 'Freedom Riders' challenged the mores of a racially segregated society by performing a disarmingly simple act. FREEDOM RIDERS is the powerful harrowing and ultimately inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. From May until November 1961, more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives—and many endured savage beatings and imprisonment—for simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South. Deliberately violating Jim Crow laws, the Freedom Riders met with bitter racism and mob violence along the way, sorely testing their belief in nonviolent activism.

Free Comic Book Day
Free Comic Book Day is a single day - the first Saturday in May each year - when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. Both locations of Night-Flight Comics will be opening their doors promptly at 11:00 a.m. (Night-Flight Comics at Library Square will remain open until 6:00 PM while Night-Flight Comics at 6222 South State Street will remain open until 7:00 PM) to give you your free comic books (limit one per person per visit).

As a special treat to comic book fans, they will be having creators signing at the 6222 South State Street location from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Night-Flight Comics is proud to present the following: AJ Bell and CK Edwards, creators of Pocket Hole; Brady Canfield, creator of Wombat Rue; Bill Galvan, artist for Archie; Derek Hunter, creator of Pirate Club and Derek Hunter is a F**k; Quinn Johnson, co-creator of Elders of the Runestone and writer of Megamind; Tim Odland, creator of Curse of the Raven; and Ryan Ottley, artist of Invincible, Haunt, and co-creator Sea Bear & Grizzly Shark.

If you ride a bike, you need this class! In this informative presentation you'll learn how to lube a chain, fix a flat tire in record time, and make other minor adjustments to your bike. No experience necessary! If you register for any of our free in-store presentations, we will hold a seat for you until the scheduled start. Registration is strongly recommended. If you do not arrive to claim your seat before this time, we will release it to the general public. Seating may be available at the door, even if the registration is closed.
